If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.
Laura Ingalls Wilder
Read the above quote as an instruction and not as an observation. And note that she did not say you will find beauty only in nature, but you will find beauty everywhere. Love nature. Then you will see everything as a pattern of colors. You will hear everything as a pattern of sound. Everything you encounter through your senses will be a pattern of sensory inputs. Your consciousness will interpret the inputs and decide something. When a leaf leaps from a tree and glides to the ground, what is that for you? First, it’s a pattern of light and color and shadow. Then it may be a pattern of rustling sounds. You may notice a pattern of caresses on your skin as a breeze flows by. You might detect patterns of smells from other fallen leaves. How will you feel about these sensory patterns? Maybe you will stress that you need have annual maintenance done on your furnace. Maybe you will remember that exams are coming up for school. Maybe you will start to miss summer and dread winter. Or maybe you will perceive beauty. This is not a decision you will make in that moment. It is another pattern – your consciousness will interpret these patterns some kind of way. This depends on how you have practiced and trained your consciousness. Like the black belt who reacts to block a punch, you can develop “muscle memory” for your brain. Regular practice (walks in nature are a good option). Intentionally paying attention (meditation is a good option).
TL;DR: In order to find beauty everywhere, truly love nature.
